“A graceful, elegantly crafted piece...about the collision between contemporary materialism and nature.”
“Melisa Tien’s clever libretto has taken Andersen’s folk tale and adapted it to suit modern times. ”
Song of the Nightingale
A co-commission between On Site Opera and Brookfield Properties Arts & Culture, this new opera by librettist Melisa Tien and composer Lisa DeSpain is a contemporary adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Nightingale”.
This modern-day fairy tale tells the story of a collector looking to gather up the world’s most beautiful objects.
Performances took place September 8-30 across three of Brookfield Properties’ public spaces—Brooklyn Commons, Manhattan West, and Brookfield Place—and were free of charge and accessible to all.
